Magic Mirrors at Leigh Gallery in Hampton, UK

By Doina Moss

A mirror in a room undisputedly becomes a tool for manipulating light and visually extending the space. Playing with proportion and scale, an array of tricks can bring magic into a room. The mirror can be a centre-piece emphasising symmetry and balance or located strategically to break a corner, to bring light into a dark corner, or to add reflections bouncing into a room. The mirror brings joy and happiness.

At Leigh Gallery we like to experiment with contemporary techniques. While retaining the authenticity of an ornate gilded frame, we can change the mood by applying Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. Each colour creates a different feel.

In our example, Jane of Sheldon Paint, our associated business, has used Annie’s Napoleonic Blue. The tone is flexible and adds a velvety quality. The Neo impressionist feel of a shadow surrounding the glaze of the mirror, enhances the atmospheric quality of a room.

Cristina is modelling our latest creation. The bevelled edge adds to the quality of the perspective, enhancing the depth.

Your artwork collection will be multiplied by the reflection, enriching the space.

In our example Doina’s paintings are brought to the fore, while Cristina’s artworks surround the main frame setting.

For a bespoke effect, one can choose different profiles, play with proportion and orientation. The colour swatch can be tested against the general colour scheme of each client’s room to complement or to harmonise with the existing colour scheme.

Leigh’s mastery with Cristina’s talent can translate your dreams into reality.
